Ok, so I had my little rant. I whined and carried on about how the world
isn’t fair and doesn’t adjust itself to my expectations. I let you all know that i was offended that everything doesn’t go my way.
I got it off my chest.
Well, we had a meeting the next morning, and I challenged the top dog on how things were being done as far as our living conditions go. When the smoke cleared, I think we all had a better understanding of the situation, and more importantly, learned a little something about each other’s point of view.
Well, it turns out I don’t have to move right now, but it’s inevitable.
When faced with that situation, I did what I normally do.
I seized the initiative.
Instead of waiting for the powers that be to get their crap together and make things happen, I handled it myself. I went directly to the housing office and signed for one of the corner bunks (a choice spot). So even though I was faced with a less than perfect situation, because I was able to make a decision and act quickly, I got the best of a bad deal.
I can’t stress too much how important this ability is in your business as well as in your life. You simply must develop the habit of taking a cold, hard look at whatever situation your in, make a decision, and act on it. Once you’ve made your decision, there’s no longer any reason to hold back. Just go for it.
I’ve heard that one of the qualities that successful people share is the ability to make decisions quickly and change their minds slowly.
So the next time you’re faced with a crappy situation, don’t get caught up in it. Let your emotions go as quickly as possible. Then make a decision based on the reality you’re looking at, not how you feel about it. And act. Act now, and act like you mean it.
The better you get at doing this, the faster you’ll move towards your goals.
