Afghanistan # 13 – It was 43 degrees in the gym today…

It was 43 degrees in the gym today…

At 0430. That’s 4:30 am, for those of you who don’t
use a 24 hour clock. I was almost finished with my
workout when I happened to look up on the wall and
saw the thermometer. No wonder I felt a little chilly.

But it’s not so bad. Not as bad as knowing that I’ll
have to continue going to a job I hate, being paid
less than I’m worth, and putting up with all the crap
I gotta listen to on a daily basis.

That’s why I’m here. This is my escape route. it’s a bit
tough right now, but I don’t care. Because within a few
short months I’ll break free forever and never look back.

The heater for my tent is not enough to keep the temperature
above 50 degrees when it’s really cold outside. There is no
heater in the latrine, and none in the showers. Whenever we
turn on the heater in the shop, the generator takes a dump
and we have no power. So we can’t use the heater there.

We’re cold all the time.

Today when I got back from the gym, I heard the pipes in
the latrine making funny noises. So I walked over to the sink
and turned on the tap to wash my hands. Sure enough, out
of water again. No shower this morning.

Welcome to my world.

But I chose to be here. I’m here for one reason, and one
reason only. To earn the money to finance my business
so I can finally be free. To own my life. To never have to put
up with someone so dumb they can’t even figure out they
should have backup power in case their primary source
goes down. And these are the people who think they should
be telling ME what to do.

Yeah. No more knuckleheads expecting me to bust my ass
to make up for their incompetence. Sweet.

But this note isn’t just for me to bitch about how bad I’ve got it.
Not at all.
I just want to let you know that whatever challenges you’re
facing as you struggle to break free, YOU CAN HANDLE IT.

Nothing lasts forever, and you can make it through.
If I can find the time to do what I must do to succeed in my
business while living and working here, surely you can do it
from wherever you are.

Believe it.

The key is to find the tools you need to leverage your
efforts. To make sure you’re digging that hole with a backhoe
and not a spoon.

So get out there and find what you need.
And don’t you quit. Ever.
No matter what you have to do, do it.

The rewards will far exceed the cost.

P.S. This is the same system I use to run my business from a tent
in Afghanistan, where I work 12 hours a day, 7 days a week. If I
can do it from here, it should be easier for you.
