Ok, I got a little off-topic for a couple of posts. Or did I? Some of you will be starting to see the big picture already. If not, don’t worry. I promise it’ll all become clear shortly.
The reason we start off with articles is about 3-fold. Maybe 4. Doesn’t matter. The point is that there are actually several reasons for it.
Reason 1 – Know Your Objective
When you decide to write an article, you have to go through a few steps. You have to know who you’ re writing to.
(a specific sub-set of your customer base, or a larger, less targeted group). Then you have to pick your keywords relevant to your subject and interesting to your readers. You also have to know what you’re talking about, so you have to research and learn about your subject.
All of these things are necessary to avoid sounding like a goofball.
They’re also critical if you want to learn about your chosen field.
Reason 2 – Re-Purpose Your Content
Every article you write is not just an article.
It’s also the beginnings of a blog post, the script for a podcast, the script for a video, a free PDF download, etc. It’s anything you want it to be, and you can use it in lots of different ways.
Reason 3 – Time
It takes some time for your article writing to really bear some serious fruit. I’ll be showing you how to shorten that time-line dramatically, but the fact remains that it’ll take some time before you have hundreds of articles all over the net bringing you free traffic every day. It just takes a while to pick keywords, do the research and write an article. But once it’s done, that little article will keep chugging along pulling in prospects for as long as you’re in business.
Reason 4 – Article Writing Is A Foundational Strategy
Meaning that it is one of the things that if done correctly, will be at the core of your business strategy. PPC is constantly changing. From the Google “slap”, to the fickle nature of trends, it’s a never-ending battle to stay on top. While your forum posts will stick around also, they usually don’t give as much good value to the reader as your articles will. And you can link any of your articles to any of your other pages and get some good SEO “link juice” from them forever.
Aren’t articles great?
You should now have a new respect for articles. They’ll help you build your business like few other things can. You may think they’re not as sexy or fun as some of the other marketing strategies, but make no mistake. Article marketing is incredibly important to your business.
In Attraction Marketing #17, we’ll talk about some specific strategies for getting some serious mileage out of your articles.
