Attraction Marketing #4 – Facebook

Yeah, Facebook.
Before I got into marketing, I really couldn’t see any use whatsoever for any of these stupid social sites. Honestly. Who gives a crap how many friends you have on Facebook? The only reason you’re on there all the time is cuz nobody wants to hang out with you in real life. Sad.

On the other hand, Facebook is a useful tool for looking up people that you’ve lost contact with over the years. Ok, most of those people you never want to hear from again anyway. But just in case there’s someone out there you do want to find, you can look ‘em up on Facebook.

Used to be only losers hung out online trying to make friends. Now you’re a loser if you don’t. Go figure.

Side note.
If you’re trying to get a cool job, you might want to delete your Facebook page. i don’t know what you’ve been doing on there, but if it’s anything that anyone, anywhere at any time might be offended by, you may want to get rid of it. Your future employer will no doubt look you up online and see all those things you wish you’d never posted. Just a thought.

“But Dave, how do I market on Facebook?”

Short answer. You don’t.

Long answer. Subtly. Ok, that’s a weird word. Let’s make it 2.
Be subtle. Yeah, that’s better.

The basic idea is to have a Facebook page as another way for people to find you online. They may not hang out on the sites you like, but that doesn’t mean they’re not a red hot prospect just dying to start a business.

With that in mind, here’s what you do.

Set up your Facebook page with the usual basic information about yourself. Then throw in some of the cooler stuff you’re not sure you should add. Why? Because you’ve got to be interesting if you expect people to want to hear what you’ve got to say. Really flesh it out.

Make it cool. Embellish it.

Bonus copywriting lesson:

Any time you write an article, record an audio, or make a video, you should be trying to find your voice. That means to put things in your own words with your own style. Just tell it like it is, the way you see it, like your’e talking to a friend. Can all theĀ  BS and just roll it out. Your content will be much more interesting to your prospects as you find your voice.

Bonus SEO lesson:

Oh yeah. Don’t forget to link your Squidoo “about me” lens to your Facebook page.
It will help your SEO and give your prospects another place to go to see more of your stuff. The more interesting stuff you have for them to look at, the more fun they’ll have on your sites, and the more they’ll get to know you.

So now you should have your blog, or home base, your Squidoo “about me” lens, and your Facebook page all linked together, back and forth, making you look more professional and interesting. Cool, huh?

You are going to blow some people away with the philosophy of “don’t market on Facebook”. That’s the buzz – go make friends – build this massive list – make more friends – get a huge list of friends – make more friends. Bragging rights I guess.

Well Joyce, you know me. Born contrarian. Besides, isn’t it better to just post a blurb when you throw out
an article or something and just talk about the cool places you go and people you meet? If
someone wants to start a business, they’re probably not looking on Facebook. But if they’ve ever
thought about it, and they see all the fun you’re having with it, they may just take another look at
    owning a business.
