Basic Backlink Strategy

Creating backlinks and improving your SEO is not a linear process.
Almost everyone who attempts it wants to approach it the same way most people
approach everything. Higher volume and in a linear way.

In other words they post the greatest number of articles possible. They use article
spinners (which makes the article read like it was written by a third grader in an English
as a second language course) and then they post those articles to every article directory they
can find.

This is not an effective strategy for lots of reasons. Let’s just say it’s not the best way to go.

Your backlink strategy should be more a form of controlled chaos. You don’t necessarily want to
post every article to every directory. Let’s say you’re using 5 of the top directories. Article one might
be posted in directories 1,3 and 5. The next article might be posted in directories 2 and 4. You could
cross-link these articles if they are related. Like linking an article on directory 2 to an article on directory
5. Imagine a web of links that don’t all necessarily lead back to your blog.

If you build a Squidoo lens or a HubPage on a subject,

you could link your articles to

these pages. Say you have 23 articles on a similar subject. You point the links in these articles to your Squidoo page. Then you link the Squidoo page to the category on your blog that deals with the same subject. You will get more “link juice” from the linking of the Squidoo page to your blog than if you just linked the articles to your blog. You can also cross-link your different social pages to each other. Linking your Squidoo lenses to your HubPages.

Again, think of a chaotic web of inter-connected links that all pertain to the same subject. Ultimately, you will have authority sites like Squidoo with your lenses linked to your blog. This will carry much more weight than simply spamming badly hacked up articles all over the web.

Of course, you’re going to have to write more good articles. Just remember, every article doesn’t have to be on every directory. Stick to no more than 5 at a time before adding any more. And don’t spam your articles, even if you spin them.

It has taken me months to find a good writer, and now that we’re training her, she’s learning to write articles that are far more interesting to our audience. If it takes this much effort to get articles written by a human being, how dumb do you think those spun articles sound when all they’re doing is making hobo stew from the leftover crap in the article fridge?

So here’s the plan:

1. Post only to 5 directories at a time. (I think that’s all you’ll ever need)
2. Create social pages like Squidoo lenses and HubPages to link your articles to. (works for video also)
3. Link your social pages to your blog categories. These are authority sites linking to your blog.
4. Don’t spew crappy articles all over the web.
5. You don’t have to post every article on every page you own. (if you post some stuff exclusively to your blog, people will go there to get it. this works with posting exclusive content to your other sites also)
6. You can link pages on your blog to your social pages also.
7. Think of a chaotic web of links, not a linear step-by-step plan.

On a final note, remember the wise words of Richard Bravo. Be careful what you believe.
Don’t just take my word for this. Test it. Then tell me the results.
