Self-Syndication For More Blog Traffic Pt 1

This will be the first part of a 3 part series on self-syndication.

What is Self-Syndication? Syndication on the Internet

First lets start with the definition of syndication. According to the dictionary in my computer, syndication is the act of “publishing  or broadcasting (material) simultaneously in a number of newspapers, television stations, etc.” For internet marketers, we can change the definition slightly to say “blogs and social media sites” instead of newspapers, etc.

Everybody wants more traffic. Traffic, traffic, traffic. Of course all traffic isn’t created equal, but that’s a subject for another post. The question is, “How can I get more traffic to my blog?” Believe me, no matter how big your organization is, or how successful you become, you’ll probably never stop asking this question.

Is Syndication The Answer?

Yes. Well, it’s not THE answer, but it’s an answer that will certainly help in your quest to bring more future team members and cus

tomers to your blog.

If you’re looking for a syndication “tribe” or a site that promises to “auto-syndicate” your content, you’ll find lots of them out there. I belong to a syndication tribe called TSA Mastery. It’s a community of marketers and other bloggers (it’s a fairly diverse group) who have come together to help promote each other in the interest of working together to create more business for all.

But this post is about self-syndication. Here’s the first tool that I’d like to introduce you to.

Syndication With TubeMogul

TubeMogul is a free social media site that allows you to post to several different video sites with a single upload. And you can bet this makes syndication of your videos much quicker and easier. Because video is becoming such a big part of internet marketing, it’s probably a good idea to start learning how to make videos and post them on the internet. Although YouTube is the biggest, baddest video sharing site around (not to mention they’re owned by Google), there are many other sites on the net that are worthy of your attention.

But why go to all those sites and post your videos one at a time when you can save loads of time by using a service like TubeMogul? Why indeed.

You can find TubeMogul here. Once there, it’s very easy to create your account. Once inside, you’ll find video tutorials to teach you everything you need to know about using the service. The even have a free training webinar every Friday at 11am PST.

And, as always, they have a support team that’s ready to answer any question you might have that’s not covered in the tutorials.

One caution. Some of the sites that are out there only allow certain types of content to be uploaded to their site. You’ll want to pay attention to the rules of each site. Of course it’s not the end of the world if you send unwanted material to one of your sites. It won’t signal the demise of your syndication plan. The site will simply close your account. No biggie. There are lots of other sites out there and no single site  is gonna make or break your syndication efforts.

    David,
Self syndication is a very important part of the marketing process that is for sure. There are many tools and systems out there to help with the process tube mogul is definitely one of them. I like to use tubemogul in conjunction with youtube’s built in network for maximum exposure for free. Liked so much I wrote a post about it ;) . Looking forward to more revelations my friend.

  2. Dave Says:

    Hey Steve,

I think the biggest problem most marketers face, especially when they’re relatively new, is which method to choose to promote their business. Articles, ppc, videos, social media and on and on. Most of the time a new entrepreneur will run themselves ragged (and out of money) chasing every new thing they hear about in hopes that it’s the holy grail of “autopilot profits”. Instead, they should pick one method to start with and syndicate their content with the tools available.

Since my business is based almost entirely on video, I am concentrating on the video sharing sites. In parts 2 and 3 I’ll introduce the other syndication tools I use. My syndication priority is TSA Mastery and the marketers who are members of that group.

  3. Dereck Arreguin Says:

    Hey Dave,

Great posting. But if I could suggest to those who are considering TubeMogule, to make sure they post to YouTube personally and not allow any service to do it for you.

Other than my little addition to a fantastic posting, I’m really excited to see the second and third installment in the series. Hmmm… makes me think about writing a support posting on exactly how to get started with video and marketing. :D

Hope all is well my friend, we need to catch up!

    Talk with you soon.

  4. Dave Says:

    Hey Dereck,

You’re absolutely right. There are things you can do with YouTube that you should do manually because as far as I know, none of the automatic submitters can tweak your settings just right. Thanks for adding that important tip.

Actually, things are beginning to look up, and I’ve been gaining momentum. Great interview you did with Joyce. Talk to you soon.

  5. Linda Thomas Says:

    Hi Dave,
I’m glad I happened by, as this post seems written to me!
I am still playing “catch up” from a side commitment, but it is completed now, and I am gearing up. I need to get my videos rolling; and yes, since I’ve got a learning curve, procrastination has set in on that one!
But as I do it, I will keep a link to this post, as I most definitely will need to broadcast them!
Looking forward to my next learning experience on your site!
    Linda

  6. Dave Says:

    Hey Linda,

I know the feeling of having to juggle commitments. If you’re suffering from procrastination, you may want to check out my previous post where Cori Hughes explains 3 main causes of procrastination and how to start to get a handle on it.
I’m glad this post helped you out. You’ll want to be sure to come back next week when I share another free syndication site.

  7. Rick Salas Says:

HiDave. thanks for the great advice. Videos do something that writing can’t do. It allows us to take someone step by step to learn something on the computer. If they are optimized correctly they are the most powerful way to get ranked on the search engines and anything that can help that along is always something to do in the video marketing blueprint. I’ve heard of TubeMogul and some of my friends use it. I will surely start using soon and glad to have a powerful way to help myself get more traffic. Thanks again Dave and have a wonderful day!

  8. Dave Says:

    Hey Rick,

Thanks for stopping by and adding to the conversation. I agree that using video to teach is far more effective than just written instructions. When I’m learning by video I like to open 2 windows – one with the instruction video, and one that I’m working in. That way I can pause the video while I follow the instructions in my other window. If my results aren’t the same as in the instructions, I can rewind the video and watch the same section over again as many times as it takes till I get it right. I’ve found that to be the most effective way to use how-to videos.

Don’t put off starting on your videos, Rick. There are lots of people out there waiting to learn what you have to teach them :)

  9. Deb Augur Says:

    Hi Dave,

I haven’t used Tube Mogul yet but I’ve heard a lot about it. I keep telling myself to get an account and try it out but one thing always leads to another and I just don’t get it done. I do use YouTube quite a bit but the syndication aspect of Tube Mogul is what keeps drawing me to it. Appreciate your explanation. I’m glad I read your post.

  10. Dave Says:

    Hey Deb,

It took me a long time to get myself to go ahead and do it. TubeMogul was actually the second site I went with. I’ll be describing the others on my next couple of posts. One thing I’ve found even with the people who have set up accounts with syndication sites – they don’t sign up to all of the services. I figured I’d sign up for all of them. I now have accounts at dozens of social sites. While I don’t have the syndication process all figured out, I do know that I’m getting far much exposure as a result of using these sites and especially being a member of TSA Mastery.

When you do start using these other sites, remember Dereck Arreguin’s comment about YouTube. Even if you’re using syndication sites you should always do YouTube manually. It’s too valuable a piece of internet real estate to trust it to an automated system.

  11. Rob Wilson Says:

    Hi Dave,

I haven’t checked out TubeMogul, but it sounds really interesting. I’ve got some videos up on YouTube, but slowed down the productions of new ones to focus on some other things. There are a few in the pipeline though and I’ll definitely consider using TubeMogul now to upload those and submit the other completed ones as well. Thanks for the tip! – Rob

  12. Allegra Sinclair Says:

    Hi Dave,
Nice post. I appreciate the actionable information. I had never heard of TubeMogul (because I’m still dragging my feet on adding video to my marketing toolbelt) but it certainly sounds like a timesaver. I appreciate the feedback from a couple of your site visitors that self-syndication should not take the place of individual marketing efforts. What I took from your post is that getting started with video marketing is the key point, whether we submit our videos to sites individually or use a tool like TubeMogul. I love that name, who doesn’t want to be a mogul? I hope you’re having a POWERFUL week!

  13. Dave Says:

    Hey Allegra,

It never gets old hearing people tell you that they liked what they saw on your blog. :) Sites like TubeMogul certainly do save time. It seems like a ton of work when you’re first setting up accounts on all the different sites, but over the long run it saves bunches of time. A good thing about comments is that they add much to the original post. Good comments make a good post even better.

While I do advocate using video in your marketing, you shouldn’t neglect what you’ve already set up to jump into it. Whatever marketing technique there is, I’ll bet you can find someone that made a fortune with it. The main problem for most marketers is sticking with one thing long enough to get good at it before moving on to something else. But it’s a sure thing that if you want to syndicate lots of videos, you’re definitely gonna need tools like TubeMogul.

  14. Dave Says:

    Hey Rob,

TubeMogul is one of the better sites that I’ve found to help me promote my business. It’s easy to set up, there aren’t a hundred different sites you have to set up accounts in, and the system is simple enough to learn with only a couple of uploads.
It’s a good idea to get those videos out there. Although I like to read a lot of my content, statistics show that most people prefer video. And since they’re the ones that will buy my stuff, I want to provide my customers with the type of content they prefer.
I’m sure you’ll see improved results as far as views and sales when you start promoting your videos to multiple sites.

  15. Pastor Sherry Says:

I would concur — TSA is a great idea for syndication!

As for self-syndication, I haven’t yet gotten to videos, but will keep TubeMogul in mind. Thanks for the suggestion! For written content, I suppose the article directories would work the same. You will probably talk about that in another blog.

Yes, it’s not totally about traffic, but about what one person calls, “raving fans.” But traffic certainly helps!

Would probably not have met you without it.
I also love the way you can syndicate with pingfm to lots of bookmarking sites.

Thanks for this article and insight into TubeMogul. We are not using video as much as we’d like yet, so learning about this tool for video syndication is great!
