So I’m rollin along in my car, and I hear on the radio a group of people discussing “snuggies”. I thought it was probably something like a “wedgie”, (which is pretty funny) so I turned up the radio so I wouldn’t miss anything.
I had never heard of a snuggie before, but I guess as usual, I’m one of the last to know. Apparently, snuggie s are
sweeping the globe and everyone wants one. Or two. It seems that a snuggie is a blanket with sleeves. Really. Sounds like a good idea. You can stay warm while you go to the bathroom during a commercial break.
Anyway, what caught my attention was when one of the hosts of the show mentioned one of the selling points of the snuggie. He said that “If you’re wearing a snuggie, your arm won’t get chilly when you’re reaching for the remote”.
Just for a second imagine someone so slothful, and so concerned for their own comfort, that they actually are a little miffed that their arm might catch a draft when they have to rouse themselves to the task of reaching for the television remote control. Dang. Now that’s weird.
Why is this important to marketing on the internet? Because that’s your customer!
It’s always a good idea to think in terms of extremes when considering your marketing efforts. Picture your customer as a person who is worried they might get a little chilly when reaching for a remote. Or anything else for that matter. Imagine someone like that who you’re trying to reach. How will you reach them?!
Thankfully, you don’t have to get them off the couch. They’ve already gotten to the desk with the computer on it before you’re in contact with them. They got the thing turned on, booted up and ready to go. And now they’re looking for something. Something you sell. Game on!
Always remember that you’re dealing with an individual person. This person has wants, needs and feelings, most of which are not being met. He is lazy, disinterested and knows for a fact that everything on the internet is a lie, and all MLM’s are scams. But most of all, he’s bored. Very, very bored with his dull, lackluster life. He is stuck in a rut of the same ol’ same ol’, day in and day out, week after week, month after month, year after year.
And now, (right now!) he’s surfin the net looking for something (anything!) to help him reach whatever goal he has in mind and make a ton of money so he can live the life he deserves instead of this crappy life he’s been living.
You can help this person. He needs you. But before you can help him you’ve got to understand how to reach him. To do that you’ve got to understand him. His wants, needs and feelings. And understand that in order to reach him, you’ve got to break through that cocoon (snuggie) he’s wrapped himself in and convince him that it’s OK if his arm gets a little chilly when he’s reaching for his goal. That he’s gonna have to get a little uncomfortable from time to time if he’s gonna get there. And you’ve got to convince him that you can help him, and that the discomfort is worth it.
How will you do that? I’m here to help you figure that out. And you’ve got to do it. You owe it to your customer.
For Your Success,
Dave
